Parent Education

There is Something I Don't Know

There is something I don't know
that I am supposed to know
I don't know what it is I don't know
and yet I am supposed to know,
and I feel I look stupid
if I seem both not to know it
and not know what it is I don't know.
Therefore I pretend I know it.
This is very nerve-racking
since I don't know what I must pretend to          know.
Therefore I pretend to know everything.

I feel you know what I am supposed to know
but you can't tell me what it is
because you don't know that I don't know          what it is.
You may know that I don't know, but not
     that I don't tell you,
     and I can't tell you.
So you will have to tell me everything.

Parents are the most important people in the lives of their children. Common sense tells us that, the professionals pronounce it, and research confirms it. Just because we may not always feel it doesn't mean it isn't true! As parents we are the primary sexuality educators of our children. It is our job to inform and teach them so they can make healthy, positive decisions in their lives.

This starts at a young age and continues throughout their lives. Sexuality Education isn't a "one time talk" it is an ongoing conversation. Parents need to teach their children everything about sexuality - not just the physical aspects. Include relationships, sex in the media, dating expectations, behavior, and your values - just to name a few - in your conversations.

Project SIGHT encourages parents to be honest and open with your children so they know you are an accurate and trusted resource of information about sex. This encourages your children to come to you for answers - not friends, magazines, TV or other sources. Other sources of information don't always have accurate information or your children's health and happiness as a priority.

Project SIGHT offers parent education courses for parents of all age children. We are happy to adapt to the needs of a group and try new educational techniques. For more information about parent education check out the pages listed below or contact:
